Grinch Week!

 

Look What We Are Learning

Reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Recognize & explain cause & effect relationships. J

Writing –Grinch Writing Activities.

Language- Adjectives & Digraphs.

Spelling–Christmas and Winter Spelling Words.

Math –Multiplication Skip Counting/Addition & Subtraction Review/Grinch Multiplication & Division/Christmas Tree Multiplication BINGO.

Science –Who Pudding/Green Heat Experiments/Candy Cane Experiment/Grinch Grime.

Chapter Book Reading The Boxcar Children # 1- The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. The Boxcar Children # 2- Surprise Island by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

News:

  1. Happy Birthday to Stephan Ranger on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019.
  2. Santa Run- Tuesday, December 17th, 2019. See note that went home on 12/3/19.
  3. Pizza Lunch on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019 for students that returned 12 Homework Packets. All eligible students will receive a letter with details.
  4. Christmas & Winter Spelling Words test on Friday, 12/20/19.
  5. Reading log & Math & Social Studies homework went home on 12/13/19. All are due back on Friday, 12/20/19.
  6. December BOOK IT! went home on 11/26/19. It is due on Monday, 1/6/20.
  7. Rocks, what else! Program is on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019. Please turn in an egg carton ASAP, if you have not already done so.
  8. Early dismissal @ 11:40 am on Wednesday, 12/18/19.
  9. Grinch Week will be 12/16/19 – 12/20/19. Monday, 12/16/19-Dress in Green. Tuesday, 12/17/19-Wear Wacky Socks. Wednesday, 12/18/19- Dress as a Who. Thursday, 12/19/19- have a Whoville hairdo. Friday, 12/20/19 - wear your jamies- Grinch Movie Day/Bring in a Green Treat if possible.
  10. Winter Break is from Monday, 12/23/19 until Friday, 1/3/20. School resumes on Monday, 1/6/20.
  11. The Second Marking Period Chapter Book Reports went home on 10/25/19. Students need to read Chapter Books for these reports. Each question for the second marking period needs to be answered in complete sentences. The completed reports need to be turned in on Friday, January 10th, 2020.
  12. The weekly spelling list and the classroom newsletter are on the Bentley school website. Click on “Barhitte Teachers” then “Mrs. Wolfling”.
  13. Daily Reading/Chapter Book Reading RequirementAll third grade students are required to read at least 10 minutes per night at home each school day. They are also required to read 5 Chapter Books at home each marking period. A Book report form needs to be filled out & returned for each Chapter Book that is read at home. Each question for book reports needs to be answered with a minimum of 5 sentences. The book report forms for the Second Marking Period were sent home on 10/25/19. The 5 book report forms for the Second Marking Period are due on Friday, January 10th, 2020.
  14. Please work with your child to learn multiplication facts at home. Students should know all facts up to 12 by the end of third grade. Extra practice at home is essential. Flash cards are a great way to practice!!!!!

Reminders:

Class work that students do not finish in school will be sent home to complete at home and return the next day.

Homework papers go home on Fridays and are due the following Friday.

Grinch

Week!


The Grinch is coming December 16th – 20th.

No need to fret.

Mrs. Wolfling’s not afraid,

For they have met.

They’ve planned a week full of fun & green,

He’s made a promise not to be mean.

So dress in his favorite color-green- on Monday, 12/16. Wear wacky socks on Tuesday, 12/17. Dress as a Who On Wednesday, 12/18. On Thursday, 12/19 have a Whoville hairdo & On Friday, 12/20 wear your jamies.

If you’d like, you can bring a green treat on 12/20.

I’m so excited for you guys to meet!         

Grinch Movie Day!

The week of December 16th – 20th  is going to be filled with special Grinch activities. To close off the week students will be having a Grinch Movie Day on Friday, December 20sth Students will compare & contrast the cartoon version & another version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. Students may wear their pj’s on this day. If anyone would like to bring in a green treat, popcorn, juice or a “Grinch” treat it would be appreciated. If something else is needed for your snack (cups, bowls, forks, spoons, etc.) please supply that as well.

 Grinch Movie Day will replace a traditional Christmas Party.
