Our library at Barhitte Elementary is fully automated as of 2002 with Follett Software. We have a collection of over 11,000 books. Our library is run by Mrs. Gorbutt.
Each class visits the library at a regularly scheduled time each week. After a brief story time, the students have the opportunity to choose and check out a book to take home.
Children in grades 1-5 participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. This is a self-paced, individualized computer-assisted reading program. Students check out and read books, then take computerized multiple choice tests that measure their comprehension of the books. They earn points for passed tests and are rewarded with prizes at the end of each marking period. Barhitte is now using the online version which provides the students with over 140,000 tests.
